If you’re looking to secure an IEC invitation for the Working Holiday Visa in Canada this year, you really should get a move on. The visa process is well under way, however there’s still time to check your eligibility and enter yourself into the pool of candidates to be chosen at random and sent an Invitation to Apply (if you’re lucky, that is). The IEC do stress that this is the most popular category and not everyone will receive a visa this year.

The Working Holiday category is very popular. This means there are usually more candidates than spots available. All candidates in the pool have an equal chance of being invited. There is also a possibility that you will not receive an Invitation to Apply before the end of the season. – IEC

hi there my boyfriend and i would like to apply for the wotking holiday visa for the year 2017 . it’s not very clear to me the process to apply for the visa. are we still in time ? what’s the age limit? how mich does the visa costs? once you apply is it sure you get the visa or not?

    thank you in advance 🙂

    • JFrench says:

      Hi Luana,

      Thanks for getting in touch!

If you are hoping to go to Canada next year, then there may not be too much time left for you to do this because the majority of the visas have been released. But this depends on your country; you can check the updated list here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/selections.asp

The age limit changes per country, but it’s normally 30-35 years. The fee is $250, however you may need to pay for a medical exam or to get police certificates from different countries.

The first step you should take is to find out if you are both eligible. You can do this by using the IEC eligibility tool: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/eligibility.asp

      Hope this helps!
      Jane 🙂

Excuse, i’m Vietnamese and i also want to go to working holiday in your country. But I don’t see information for Vietnamese. Can you give me some information. Thanks a lot.

    • JFrench says:

      Hi Cindy,

As Vietnam is not listed as an option for a working holiday visa, we can’t confirm if this is possible. The best way to figure this out is to get in touch with a Recognised Organisation. You can see the list here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/ros.asp

We would recommend SWAP, INTERNeX, Go International and Step West!

      Good luck, Jane!

    Hi,
I am from Australia and my girlfriend is from the United Kingdom and we both want to come to Canada in January 2017. I see that there are unlimited spots for Australians but a quota for UK citizens. If we both apply soon what are he chances that we would be accepted? I know this is a broad question but thank you for you help 🙂

    • JFrench says:

      Hi Jayden!
      Thanks for getting in touch.
Unfortunately the Working Holiday Visa applications for the UK have already been closed (see here for dates & numbers!). And the rest of the applications are going to be closed by the end of September 2016. However, they will be re-opening in mid October, according to the IEC.
I would suggest that you apply for the Australian visa now, as there is no harm in doing so. And your girlfriend should be create her IEC profile once the pools open in mid October. You both should get them – there obviously is more demand for the UK due to the quota, however if she enters the pools when they open, there is a good chance that you will be able to leave for Canada in January 2017 – just don’t book any flights just yet!

      Hope this helps!
      Jane

  • Jayden says:

Thank you so much Jane! We’ll got onto it then

  • Brock Harvey says:

    Hi Jane,

My partner (Swede) and I (Australian) have entered the pool for the working holiday, and getting very excited as time passes!

Is there any indication of when the first invites will be sent out? I read that the pools opened earlier this year, so the invitations might also be sent earlier. Is there anything backing this theory such as the invites generally go out a certain time after the pools open every year?

Not really important, I’m just eager for any info at all!

    Thanks heaps in advance 🙂

    • JFrench says:

      Hi Brock 🙂

Thanks for getting in touch! Hope you both get invitations this year!
The IEC are saying that the first round of invitations will be at the end of November – so for now that’s all we know 🙂

      Hope this helps,
      Jane

  • Sophie Peacock says:

    Hello

My Partner and I are currently on a working holiday visa in Australia, this runs out in November 2017. We would love to come to Canada on a working holiday visa after to travel and work (what an experience!). We are both from the UK, I’m 25 years old and my partner is 31 years old. Is the UK age limit of 30 ever going to change? Or is there any other visa suggestions you can give us?

    • JFrench says:

      Hey Sophie!

Thanks for your comment & it sounds like you’ve got the travelling bug! Canada is awesome, you will both love it I’m sure.

Check out this link, it shows the eligibility requirements for UK citizens. Unfortunately the age limit of 30 years will not be changing this year anyway, which is a shame. So this means that your partner would not be eligible for this visa. However, there might be another option for him, I would suggest for you guys to contact one of the recommended organisations listed here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/ros.asp

I hope this helps you guys on your journey!
      Cheers, Jane

  • Ainslee says:

    Hi there
My partner and I are looking at the working holiday Visa for November 2017. We are both New Zealanders. What is the best way to go about it and when is it best to apply? I am not really finding the guidelines too clear so any information would be really helpful. Thank you

    • JFrench says:

Hey Ainslee, thanks for getting in touch!
Are you hoping to go to Canada in Nov 2017? If so, I would suggest to apply now. Once you receive the visa, you will need to activate it within the year, but if you are looking to go in Nov 17- you should apply soon as you may only receive your visa at that time, depending on the pools! 🙂
      Hope this helps!
      Jane
